Upgrading a 2.4m Satellite dish to a 3.1m using extension petals
Connect Communications offer the service to upgrade your system to be able to view weak satellite TV signals on the Costa Blanca

The channels we attempt to get are as follows... from the transponders

BBC1 Northern Ireland
BBC 3
BBC 4
Cbeebies
CBBC
Channel 5

Channel 4
Film 4
Film 4 +1

These transponders are extremely difficult to get and we cannot guarantee 24/7 reception, however we have been successful in getting the BBC and channel 5 transponder also Channel 4 series of channels from approx. 9 am in the summer and 10.00 am in the winter.
Channel 4 group of programs from about 10 .30am in the winter and 9.30am in the summer.

Each dish has it's own characteristics and are in different locations on the Costa Blanca and this affects the response to low level signals especially horizontal.

Upgrade cost 2,100.00€ including IVA

Loss or poor quality of Spanish TV programs (TDT)

Spanish TDT digital terrestrial TV.
It has been reported by several TV engineering companies that since the switch on of the new transmitter at Torrevieja there has been a problem with TV reception wihin the area.
Sudden spasmodic loss or poor quality (causing picture breakup) of the TV signal on channels that before the switch on of the new transmitter (March 2010) were OK.
This is due to "phasing" problems between the existing Aitana (Alicante) and the new Torrevieja transmissions.
We have tested several sites and report that there is a regular transistion between, very good to poor TV reception at the output of the receiving antennas.
At present we are in the hands of the TV companies responsible for transmissions for them to solve the problem.
If you are also in the catchment area for the Murcia (Carrascoy) transmitter then it may be possible to improve your reception by turning your antenna to this transmitter. However, you must remember that this is a "line of sight" system, so you must have a clear sight of the transmitter to obtain good reception.

Torrevieja boost to TDT signal coverage

Announced in March was the "Switching on" of the new TDT digital free to Air Spanish
television transmitter to boost the coverage of the Torrevieja area.
People seem to think that this is an addition of new TV channels, this is not correct. At the time of publishing this post the channels are the same as those from the Aitana transmitter which is "weak" in the area.It is merely to boost the signal strength to help prevent loss or break up of the reception.
We understand that since it's switch on it's performance is not as expected and the installation engineers seem to be having difficulty maintaining a reliable and acceptable coverage.
Please do not rush out and re-align your antennas until the system is proven to be reliable.
Also, if you have a good coverage of Spanish TDT signals at your residence re-aligning will be pointless, it will not give you much if any more TV programs.

It should be pointed out that this is a terrestrial TV system similar to that in the UK, the main difference is that it is intended for the Spanish and English TV channels are very few.

Why do we lose Satellite signals on the Costa Blanca?

Satellites are classed as being geo-stationary. From locations on the surface of the Earth geostationary objects appear motionless in the sky. Satellites travelling at roughly 6800 mph need to orbit the earth once every 23 hours, 55 minutes, and 4 seconds.
But geostationary satellites don't orbit in a perfect circle! They can be thought of as doing so, but the truth is their orbit is slightly elliptical.
So these satellites aren't completely stationary. They move toward and away from the earth, which makes them speed up and slow down.
This makes them appear to oscillate. Also, since the geostationary orbital plane is not coincident with the plane of the earth's orbit around the sun (the ecliptic) or that of the moon's orbit around the earth, the gravitational attraction of the sun and the moon act to gradually pull the geostationary satellites out of their
equatorial orbit, gradually increasing the satellite's orbital inclination.
In addition, the non circular shape of the earth's equator causes these satellites to be slowly drawn to one of two stable equilibrium points along the equator, resulting in libration (drifting back and forth)about these points.
To counteract these effects, each geostationary satellite has an onboard propulsion system that it uses to periodically correct any changes to its orbit, in order to keep its daily north-south and east-west drift within the ground antenna's beamwidth. These periodic corrections are known as stationkeeping.
From within the central part of the footprint you would be hard pushed to notice any difference in signal.
On the edge of the footprint it makes a big difference. The edge of the footprint shrinks causing the already weak signals to get even weaker, that is one of the reasons why we need a large dish to try and compensate, but not always successful!
By not keeping the satellites exactly fixed to the orbit saves money, keeping them exactly the same position would not only be difficult to manage, but requires a lot more fuel.
The satellites also rotate twice daily (morning and evening) to maximise the amount of the sun’s rays hitting the solar panels, again this movement keeps the satellites within their box, but if you are on the edge of the footprint when they rotate you could be off the edge, then back on the edge when they rotate back.

Another helpful topic proving we are experienced in the business of communication

Multi-Switcher multi cable system

Multi Switcher IF system.
More popular in Apartment Blocks and small communities.
This system needs a set top box (Decoder). Multiple channels available for Free to Air (FTA).
Needs 4/5 cables into the streets and dedicated cable to each house from remote switchers.
Cheaper on equipment but more costly for cables and installation.
Restrictions may apply to the available space in the cable trunking, especially in the streets.
Not normally used for larger installations since the high frequency signals of the SAT IF system are easily attenuated, max per each trunk cable run is approx 100m to maintain picture quality, but ideal for small communities who want to have a system based on SKY TV.
Average cost of a small system in a closed community of 25 houses from. 4,500.00€ inc IVA (180.00€ per household) + Set Top Box STB 80.00€ per house

Multi-Channel Signal Processing, Single cable system

Multi-Channel Signal Processing
Professional class 'A' Satellite to Cable processing, trans modulation, control and management system. Amplification Distribution
This is a very popular system and a Spanish version for their TV system is widely used in Spain, so generally when urbanisations are constructed the system they choose is single cable.
English TV can use this single cable system (as installed by the builders) by processing the digital Satellite signals from Astra (Free to Air) and trans-modulating it to a cable TV signal (digital), then into the cable network to the houses and the Set top Box (STB.
This type of system can be shared with the Spanish TV system, even on the same cable.
Spanish TV can also be converted into the same TV standard as the English TV and viewed on the same STB. However generally Spanish TV uses a dedicated TDT Decoder.
More costly for equipment, cheaper on installation. Recommended for larger installations.
Average cost of a system in a larger community with several
streets from 7,750.00€ inc IVA using existing cable system (as installed by the builders) (155,00€ per household based on 50 subscribers) + Set Top Box STB 65,00€ per house.
This system is expandable

English TV Systems

Connect Communications have successfully supplied and installed many Community TV systems on the Costa Blanca.
Our systems are a result of the latest digital technology, the TV picture quality is excellent.
Our professional qualification is in cable systems, electronics and communications, with over 25 years designing and installing.......
● Coaxial, Fibre Optic and CAT 5 cable systems for communication, networking and television.
● Television Broadcasting, Television Reception, Television networking.
● Multi-Media systems design, sales, installation and maintenance.

We are not is ex 'Satellite installers' but professional Community Television system engineers.
The systems are professional, of the highest quality, we only use class 'A' processing equipment.
We pride ourselves in the correct design, and installation of Community Television, which is a complex network of satellite and/or terrestrial TV and Radio reception, correct signal processing, management, conversion and trans-modulating, logistics and distribution to each house with a signal that is of high quality and reliability.
Our systems are digital and need a set top box, it is the only way to go to keep reliability and excellent quality pictures.
Analogue and High Frequency (SAT. IF) TV signals don't travel down cables very well
(So avoid Analogue systems, although they may be a little cheaper they are of poor quality and troublesome). SAT IF systems are for small communities and apartment blocks.
Connect Communications have installed into large and small communities from 50 houses to 380,they are generally 'Free to Air' systems from the Astra Group of satellites, the same used for the TV
coverage of the UK. Some systems employ CAM (encrypted) and need a legally registered viewing card.
Connect Communications is a "trading as" company and we can supply all the company details for your community administrator if you wish, we can also supply reference of our professional service, plus, if you want to visit to any of our completed systems you will be impressed with the picture quality.
We use only professional equipment in our installations, from the Satellite dish, through the LNB plus the processing equipment to the Set top Boxes.
We have many complete and working installations on the Costa Blanca, if you wish to view one or more then we will point you in the right direction.
